Athletes Compete in Dual Slalom
(January 21, 2012) - Summit athletes performed well as they went head-to-head with their competition in the Manitoba Cup Pro-Style Dual Slalom, held today, at Springhill Winter Sport Park. Racers first took a time trial run, to position them in the pack.
Then it was on to head-to-head competition. The ladder style competion led to eliminations and finally winners in each age category.
Final competition for the day was the the Overall category, which included the top 8 male and female racers.
Summit Athletes had an excellent day with many trips to the podium! In the Overall Female category, Summit's Tori Hislop and Samantha French took home Gold and Silver respectively. In Overall Men's category, Summit's Andrew Cordingley won Silver. In the age based categories a number of Summit athletes went to the podium!

HEAD TO THE MOUNTAINS
(January 11, 2012) - The Summit Mountain Camp saw 18 athletes and their families heading to Banff. The one week camp allowed athletes to train mountain terrain and snow conditions. A big "Thanks!" to coaches Brian Hatherly, Dan Blankstein and Glenn Allen, for their hard work and enthusiasm working with the athletes.

PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS
That makes 3 years in a row!!!
(March 20, 2011) - It's Official! The Summit Ski Team is the provincial champion once again! The provincial finals were held that the Assesippi Ski Area and Resort this weekend. And what a weekend it was!
On the men's side of the events, after an entire season of racing it came down to the final run of the final race! With all of the season points tallied, Summit's Andrew Cordingley lost out on the championship to Assesippi's Cody Turnbull... by 1 point!
Making sure Summit had a strong finish, Maclean Hatherly and Timotej Oravec also finished in the top 5!
Outstanding work all Summit Ski Club Male Athletes!
Summit's Samantha French took the Female Provincial Championship title, and made it very clear that she "owned" it.
Congratulations Sam on an excellent season!
Glynnis Eyford finished second in the overall standings, after a late entry into the season.
All of the Summit ladies had fantastic seasons and there were many outstanding performances. Congratulations ladies on an excellent season!
There were lots of Summit Ski Club athletes on the podium for various races throughout the weekend! Various medals (in many cases multiple medals) went to Samantha French, Glynnis Eyford, Abby Eyford, Meghan Brown, Sara Telles-Langdon, Andrew Cordingley, Maclean Hatherly, Steven Horbas, Timotej Oravec, Jack Dunlop, Ethan Grycko, and Evan Madill.
An inspiring highlight of the weekend was a spectacular run by Ethan Grycko on the Slalom Race. Ethan had a binding problem as he left the start gate and lost a ski. Determined to finish the race, Ethan skied the entire run on one ski!!! The toughest slalom course of the season offered him many challenges as he proceeded, but any thoughts of quitting were easily drowned out by the cheers of the officials and spectators alike. At the awards ceremony, Timotej Oravec, the overall event winner, honoured Ethan's determination by presenting him with his Gold Overall medal, saying that Ethan was the "real" winner of that event! Outstanding!!!
Brendan Cordingley finished his "retirement" weekend on the racing circuit with a final run in his "bear bottom", red "onesie" underwear! Sam French made quick work of the Provincial Men's Team in an impromptu wrestling match. Snowball fights erupted and hugs were in order as the season came to an end!
What a great ending to an exciting season, with lots of hard work by athletes, under the constant encouragement of our excellent coaching staff!

Timotej Oravec at Big White
for Ski Cross Nor-Am Event!
(March 6, 2011) - It was off to Big White this week for Timotej Oravec! Racing for his home country of Slovakia in the Sport Chek Canada Ski Cross FIS SX Nor-Am event, Oravec finished with two very respectable 8th place finishes. The race included some of the top Ski Cross racers from Canada.
Congratulations Timotej for another great Ski Cross performance.

Summit's Tori Hislop
CTV Sports Star of the Week!
(March 6, 2011) - CTV was on hand at Springhill Winter Park today. They were there to interview and video Tori Hislop who was named CTV's Sports Star of the week!
Along with a busy ski schedule, Tori also plays hockey and volleyball.
