(March 6, 2011) - Summit Ski Club athletes went head to head with racers from around the province and North Dakota in Race 5 of the Manitoba Cup series, held today at Springhill Winter Park. This Dual Slalom race pitted racer against racer, in a bid to see who was the fastest on the hill! It was a full day of racing as the winner of each heat moved forward in the competion.

The race started with time trials that allowed race officials to set up the various heats. Once each racer had completed their timed runs, the head to head competion began.

A K2 elimination was run first, with the top three male and female K2 racers continuing on to race in the Overall category. Summit's Tori Hislop took the Gold for K2 Women and moved on to the Overall competition.

In the Overall category, the Summit Ski Club had a number of podium finishes! For the Womens race, Sam French took home the Gold Medal and Glynnis Eyford and Tori Hislop both won Bronze. (A 3 and 4 place final race never took place so the two racers from that heat each received Bronze). On the Men's side, Andrew Cordingley was 2nd for a Silver Medal and Steven Horbas won the Bronze.

This was a first time event, put together on fairly short notice. There were a number of challenges for the race comittee throughout the day. There were hundreds of runs, with each competition determined on the fly! Congratulations and thank you to all involved for working hard to make this event happen!
