2010/2011 Summit Ski Team

(March 20, 2011) - It's Official! The Summit Ski Team is the provincial champion once again! The provincial finals were held that the Assesippi Ski Area and Resort this weekend. And what a weekend it was!

Andrew Cordingley Takes a Gate in the Slalom Finals

On the men's side of the events, after an entire season of racing it came down to the final run of the final race! With all of the season points tallied, Summit's Andrew Cordingley lost out on the championship to Assesippi's Cody Turnbull... by 1 point!

Maclean Hatherly Gets some Crazy Air in the Super-G

Making sure Summit had a strong finish, Maclean Hatherly and Timotej Oravec also finished in the top 5!

Outstanding work all Summit Ski Club Male Athletes!

Samantha French Won the Provincial Championship Female for 2010/2011 Season

Summit's Samantha French took the Female Provincial Championship title, and made it very clear that she "owned" it.

Congratulations Sam on an excellent season!

Glynnis Eyford takes a Gate in GS

Glynnis Eyford finished second in the overall standings, after a late entry into the season.

All of the Summit ladies had fantastic seasons and there were many outstanding performances. Congratulations ladies on an excellent season!

There were lots of Summit Ski Club athletes on the podium for various races throughout the weekend! Various medals (in many cases multiple medals) went to Samantha French, Glynnis Eyford, Abby Eyford, Meghan Brown, Sara Telles-Langdon, Andrew Cordingley, Maclean Hatherly, Steven Horbas, Timotej Oravec, Jack Dunlop, Ethan Grycko, and Evan Madill.

Ethan Grycko completes the Entire Slalom Course on One Ski!

An inspiring highlight of the weekend was a spectacular run by Ethan Grycko on the Slalom Race. Ethan had a binding problem as he left the start gate and lost a ski. Determined to finish the race, Ethan skied the entire run on one ski!!! The toughest slalom course of the season offered him many challenges as he proceeded, but any thoughts of quitting were easily drowned out by the cheers of the officials and spectators alike. At the awards ceremony, Timotej Oravec, the overall event winner, honoured Ethan's determination by presenting him with his Gold Overall medal, saying that Ethan was the "real" winner of that event! Outstanding!!!

Brendan Cordingley Wraps up the Season in a Bear Bottom Onesie Run

Brendan Cordingley finished his "retirement" weekend on the racing circuit with a final run in his "bear bottom", red "onesie" underwear! Sam French made quick work of the Provincial Men's Team in an impromptu wrestling match. Snowball fights erupted and hugs were in order as the season came to an end!

What a great ending to an exciting season, with lots of hard work by athletes, under the constant encouragement of our excellent coaching staff!
